Skin health is an area that can be highly misunderstood. There are plenty of myths and falsehoods out there to make it even more confusing. Old wives tales and the latest fad don’t often help us navigate this area. Effective moisturizer is a very necessary part of your daily routine. It’s a nourishing product along with a protectant. You’ll want to be using a really good moisturizer on a very regular basis to keep your skin healthy, youthful and glowing.

Aside from making your skin feel so good, there are many benefits to using a good moisturizer. A quality moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated which is a crucial issue to avoid signs of aging and distress at all ages. To find a product that also helps strengthen the collagen in your skin is a definite bonus you will want to pursue.

Effective Moisturizers can relieve and heal, too.

An effective moisturizer can easily help repair your skin, too. With the right ingredients, it can alleviate breakouts, heal broken skin and soothe irritated skin. Whichever issue you are addressing, you will want to educate yourself in what is going to deliver the best results for you. Finding a product that the label says one thing but delivers another is too often the case in today’s market. Manufacturers do depend on the consumers ignorance and, yes…laziness, to just sell whatever they put out there on the shelves.

The cost of some of the products can be exorbitant. No one wants to add a product into your daily routine that is going to break the budget. You want a product that you can depend on and afford that is going to deliver quality results. Ingredients and formulations are very specific science that most of us do not have schooling in. But even the most elementary understanding can help. One way to avoid a disastrous outcome, is to seek the advice of an informed consultant.

Be aware of toxic and harmful formulations.

Be aware that even if you are familiar with what each one is, toxic or harmful ingredients can still be incorporated into that product. Just a few of the toxic ingredients that often aren’t listed but are covered under “proprietary blends” are formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates and sodium lauryl sulfate. They are not only toxic but can cause harm to your skin by introducing chemicals to your system that cause real long-term damage. A real quality product quite obviously should not be creating damage or harm to your skin.

It’s best to also avoid products with perfumes in them for a few reasons. First, if the manufacturer is adding perfumes, it is most likely to cover up bad ingredients and strong preservatives in the product. Secondly, especially if you suffer from sensitive skin, perfumes will only aggravate this issue. It can often cause you to develop sensitive skin.

Many companies put the label of “anti-wrinkle cream” on their products and just know that the consumer won’t check for ingredients that actually deliver results.
I’ve stated this many times previously about choosing a product that you can trust. Find a brand that you trust and are happy with and stick with that line.

A few extra tips in applying moisturizers:

Never Ever apply on dirty skin! You are just clogging your pores with impurities and creating a great environment for break outs.
On the other hand, not applying moisturizer to acne-proned skin is depriving your skin of nutrients it needs. There are great moisturizers specifically made to help with breakouts.
Stay consistent! Clean, tone and moisturizer daily and don’t forget your neck area!
There is no need to rub your product in vigorously! Just lightly smooth the product over your skin and let the moisturizer do its job.
It is not necessary to slather a great amount of really good product on your face. One thing that will help extend the product is to use the right amount…which should always be a small amount. If a great amount of product is needed, it is most likely due to a large amount of filler.
